From Pain to Purpose
Ms. Rice's story is one of resilience, passion, and dedication. After the tragic loss of her son, Tamir Rice, she became a fierce advocate for justice and police reform. Her unwavering commitment to fighting racial injustice has made her a prominent figure in the fight for systemic change. Ms. Rice's courage and determination continue to inspire others to join the fight for equality.

Tamir's Story
Tamir Rice was a 12-year-old boy from Cleveland, Ohio, who tragically lost his life on November 22, 2014. While playing with a toy gun at the Cudell Recreation Center, Tamir was shot by a police officer who mistook the toy for a real weapon. The officers had been responding to a 911 call reporting a person with a gun, but crucial information—namely that the gun was "probably fake" and the person was "probably a juvenile"—was not communicated to them. Within seconds of arriving at the scene, Officer Timothy Loehmann fired the fatal shot that took Tamir's life. The incident, captured on surveillance video, revealed the rapid escalation and excessive use of force, igniting national outrage and bringing attention to systemic issues of police violence and racial injustice.
Samaria's Journey
Samaria Rice has been unwavering in her pursuit of justice for her son, Tamir Rice, since his tragic death at the hands of police in 2014. She has tirelessly advocated for police reform and accountability, founding the Tamir Rice Foundation to support victims of police violence and promote community empowerment.
Despite extensive public outcry and legal battles, no officers were criminally charged in connection with Tamir's death. This outcome has continued to fuel calls for greater accountability and systemic change within law enforcement. Tamir's story has become a powerful symbol in the ongoing fight for justice, inspiring efforts to address and rectify the deep-seated issues of racism and police brutality in the United States.

Continuing the Fight for Justice!
Samaria Rice faces a new challenge with the state of Ohio's decision to sell a portion of the land at Cudell Recreation Center, where Tamir was killed and where she purchased a plot to create a memorial for him. This decision has sparked significant backlash from the community and activists, who view the sale as a disrespectful and insensitive act that undermines efforts to honor Tamir's memory. The controversy has mobilized supporters to protest, sign petitions, and demand transparency and accountability from state officials, all in an effort to protect the memorial and uphold Tamir's legacy.
Samaria Rice depends on your commitment to Spread the Word in order to promote real change on the ground and in local communities. If it weren’t for the active participation of countless individuals, Samaria Rice would be far more limited.
