Samaria Rice is a resilient mother, passionate advocate, and dedicated community leader. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Ms. Rice has always been deeply rooted in her community. Her life took a dramatic turn on November 22, 2014, when her 12-year-old son, Tamir Rice, was tragically killed by police. This devastating event transformed Ms. Rice into a fervent crusader for justice, dedicating her life to ensuring no other mother endures such a loss.

 

Ms. Rice's journey is one of courage and determination. In the face of unimaginable grief, she has channeled her pain into advocacy, fighting tirelessly for police reform, justice for victims of police brutality, and systemic change. Her work has made her a prominent figure in the fight against racial injustice, and she continues to inspire others with her unwavering commitment to justice and equality.

Tamir's Story

Tamir Rice was a vibrant, playful, and beloved 12-year-old boy. On a cold November day in 2014, while playing with a toy pellet gun in a local park, Tamir was shot by a police officer within seconds of their arrival. Despite immediate pleas for help, Tamir succumbed to his injuries the following day. The officer responsible faced no charges, sparking outrage and a national conversation about police brutality and systemic racism.

 

Tamir's death shattered his family and shook the community. For Ms. Rice, it ignited a relentless pursuit of justice. She has since become a vocal advocate, demanding accountability and reform within the policing system. Tamir's story is a heartbreaking reminder of the urgent need for change, and Ms. Rice is determined to honor his memory by fighting for a world where no child’s life is cut short by those sworn to protect them.

Mission and Vision

Ms. Samaria Rice’s mission is clear: to combat police brutality, advocate for the protection of minors, and spearhead police reform in Ohio and beyond. Her vision is to create a safer, more just society where the lives of Black and Brown children are valued and protected.

 

Through the Tamir Rice Foundation, Ms. Rice works to support families affected by police violence, provide resources for community education, and push for legislative changes. Her efforts include organizing rallies, participating in national conversations about police reform, and collaborating with other advocacy groups to amplify her message.

 

Ms. Rice envisions a future where justice prevails, where systemic reforms ensure accountability, and where every child can grow up free from fear. Her work is a testament to her enduring love for her son Tamir and her unyielding commitment to creating a better world for all children.
